Artifacts and Characteristics of the Novice Teacher # 4

The artifact that I brought for seminar was my workstation project from Education 461. I feel that this artifact represents an example of how I am a facilitator of learning for all students. This particular project includes numerous lesson plans and a total of 9 workstations that all deal with different styles of learning. I feel that every student in my classroom would be reached at some level no matter what way he or she learns best. This 2 week unit on poetry incorporated materials that ranged from all reading levels, the activities were designed according to the levels the students are categorized under, and I made sure to supply students with a variety of activities as well so that the learning environment continued to stay new and engaging for the students.

  1. I agree that the workstation project is under characteristic #4. This project is a big unit and you will have to be able to facilitate the students to be able to understand and move form station to station. The teacher will need to know where the students are supposed to be at all times. Since the teacher will be with their own group as well. Being able to know where the students are supposed to be will need someone to be able to guide them.

  2. Stephanie, I think the poetry unit was a great idea; students typically respond well to poetry. You have a wide range of abilities and interests in your classroom, which is giving you lots of opportunities to differentiate the instruction.

  3. Stephanie,

I think that the artifact you chose can be strongly connected to this characteristic. You begin to make that connection....in the future, try to be more specific and include examples of how the various learning activities would meet the diverse needs of particular students. You also want to begin each narrative with a discussion of how you understand the characteristic and its embedded elements.

    A good beginning.
